Easton Attempted Murder Case Headed to Trial

Richard Garcia, 20, is accused of shooting another man on Ferry Street in July.

A New York man is headed to trial in Northampton County Court for allegedly shooting another man in Easton this summer, according to published reports.

Richard Garcia, 20, is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and unlawful firearms possession.

The Morning Call says those charges were sent to county court by Senior District Judge Patricia Romig-Gainer after a preliminary hearing Tuesday

According to police, Garcia shot Eliza Trujillo early on the morning of July 25 on the 700 block of Ferry Street.

Trujillo was shot multiple times, but had recovered enough to identify Garcia from a photo line-up, police said.

He had initially been charged with giving false identification to police for allegedly telling investigators his name was "Michael Garcia" and that he was 19.

According to the Express-Times, Lt. Matthew Gerould testified Tuesday that Garcia had said in an interview with police that he acted in self-defense, shooting only after Trujillo produced a machine gun.

Police say there was no evidence to support Garcia's story.
