Woman's Killing Wasn't Random, Easton Police Say

Police believe they've identified West Ward fatal shooting victim, but have not released her name.

The killing of a 28-year-old woman found shot to death in a West Ward alley Sunday likely wasn't a random act, city police said Tuesday.

"We believe the victim probably did know the suspect," Lt. Matthew Gerould said.

But that suspect has yet to be identified, and although police know the name of the woman, they want to be able to notify her family before making it public.

Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek said the woman died of multiple gunshot wounds. He ruled her death a homicide. He said he's trying to confirm her identity and notify family members.

At this point, investigators aren't even saying whether she was local.

"The investigation is still in its infancy," Gerould said.

According to police, the woman's body was discovered in a pick-up truck on the 100 block of Peach Street—an alley between 13th and 14th streets— at around 11:32 p.m.

Gerould said the woman's body was in the driver's seat of the truck.

Police say witnesses heard gunshots in the area before the woman's body was discovered. However, they said they would not yet release how many times the woman was shot.

A dark green-pick up truck was towed from the scene. Police ask anyone with information to call detectives at 610-759-2200, 610-250-6656 or the police tip line at 610-250-6635.

This is the second deadly shooting in Easton this year. Damien Robinson was killed in February at Eddie G's, a now-closed downtown bar. The investigation into his death is before a Northampton County grand jury.
