'Exposing Easton' Facebook Sex Page Creator Charged

Peter Muprhy, 19, accused of setting up Facebook page that purportedly talked about the sex lives of young Easton women.

A Newark, NJ man has been charged with creating a now-defunct Facebook page claiming to chronicle the sexual exploits of young women from the city.

Peter Murphy, 19, faces two counts of harassment. The case has attracted media attention since police announced Murphy would be charged earlier this week, something that seemed to surprise him when he arrived for his arraignment Friday morning.

"I didn't expect the front page," he said as detectives led him into the courtroom.

"I'm telling you man, you have a lot of people upset," Det. Christopher Miller responded.

Murphy, who lived in Easton before moving to Newark, is already in prison on burglary charges. In court on Friday, he told Miller that "After this, you'll never hear from me agian."

"Peter, if this is the worst thing you ever do..." Miller began to say, but was interrupted when Senior District Judge James Stoklas came into the courtoom.

The case against Murphy began in March, when a woman from Easton contacted police about the Facebook page, concerned that it was a form of cyber-bullying and could cause the young women featured to harm themselves.

"Exposing Easton" was up for just a few days, but gathered 1,500 fans before Facebook took it down for violating its rules. It caught the attention of police and Easton Area School District officials, since some of the young women featured were apparently Easton students.

Det. Christopher Miller was able to trace the IP address that set up the page to an account owned by Murphy's mother, court records say.

Murphy admitted to setting up the page out of "spite and revenge," police said.
