Batuque Offers Easton 'Endless Supply of Meat'

New Brazilian steakhouse Batuque opens on Easton's Northampton Street.

On the menu at Batuque, you'll find dishes like Tilapia Batucada and Chicken Madeira.

But the star attraction at this new Northampton Street Brazilian steakhouse—just like any Brazilian steakhouse—is the rodizio de churrasco, says manager Barbara DeMattos.

Roughly translated (in the word's of Batuque's own menu), it's an "endless supply of meat."

What that means is that you'll order, and a chef will bring out skewers of different meats: cuts of prime rib and sirloin (the house special), chicken wings, pork loin with cheese, spare ribs, turkey wrapped in bacon, just to name a few.

(It helps to go an empty stomach.)

Owners Antonio and Ana DeMattos told City Council earlier this year they hoped to be a part of a wave of new restaurants opening in downtown Easton in the past few months.

Batuque fills a vacancy left by Phoenecia, a Middle Eastern restaurant that opened, closed and reopened and closed again in the same location.

Antonio DeMattos had worked with Rios, the Brazilian steakhouse in Nazareth. He and a fellow owner had previously run the Made in Brazil restaurant in Allentown.

Batuque, at 154 Northampton St., is open Tuesday to Thursday from noon to 9 p.m., and Friday to Sunday from noon to 10 p.m.
