Orpheus Orchestra Will Record New Work at Lafayette

Chamber orchestra will be joined by pianist Brad Mehldau next week.

The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra has chosen Lafayette College to premiere a new concerto by pianist Brad Mehldau.

The concert is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. at the Williams Center for the Performing Arts. Mehldau will join the orchestra on keyboard, and the performance will also include Beethoven’s Third Symphony, “Eroica.”

The new work, “Brad Mehldau Variations on a Melancholy Theme, Live from the Williams Center," will be recorded and released on the Nonesuch record label.

Tickets are $29 and can be purchased by calling the Williams Center box office at (610) 330-5009 weekdays between noon to 2 p.m. and 4 to 5 p.m., plus one hour before the performance.

There are few tickets remaining, so last minute inquiries should be made the day of the performance at (610) 330-5009. A limited number of stand-by tickets will be sold the evening of the performance at the box office, beginning at 7 p.m.
