Farmers Market Seeks 'The Boss of Sauce'

Tomato Fest returns to Easton Farmers' Market Saturday.

Are you proud of your tomato sauce?

Proud enough to have it go head-to-head against other cooks?

If you've said yes, then the Easton Farmers' Market wants to hear from you Saturday, when it hosts its seventh annual Tomato Fest.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the market will focus on "summer’s finest fruit," with a series of competitions.

Home growers can compete to see who has the biggest, ugliest and best tasting tomatoes. Local bartenders will try to make the best Bloody Mary. And from 10 a.m. until noon there's the Market Marinara Contest.

The contest will determine one winner in four different categories: Best Homemade Sauce (Meat), Best Homemade Sauce (Vegetarian), Best Professional Sauce (Meat) and Best Professional Sauce (Vegetarian).

If you're competing, you'll need to have at least a quart of your sauce in Centre Square by 9:30 a.m. If you have a chunkier sauce, bring at least two quarts so it survives the tasting.
