Occupy Easton Will Move to Centre Square

Protesters of Occupy Easton say they'll set up their base of operations in Centre Square starting in the new year.

Starting next month, will be occupying Centre Square.

The group said in an e-mail that it will begin a 24-hour occupation of the square on weekends starting the night of Friday Jan. 6.

Occupy Easton had been running a 24-hour encampment at Fourth and Church streets. That camp will close down Sunday in preparation for move to the square. The group says it wants to have a presence there from 8 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Sunday each weekend.

However, both the group and Easton Mayor Sal Panto told the Express-Times that protesters will not be camping in the square.

The mayor noted that Occupy Easton has maintained a good relationship with the city. The Occupy groups in Bethlehem and Allentown have both faced eviction from their cities.
