ReplySo true! Just had a mini-mini reunion with 5 friends who didn't even hang out often in HS but caught up with each other on FB and reunited for a fun girls weekend. The good times may not have always been so good, but getting together with old friends makes for the time of our lives!

ReplyMatthew was 5 when he came off the bus that day and asked if I'd heard about the planes crashing into the Twin Towers. I asked at the time, "I can tell him the monsters under his bed aren't real, but what can I say about this?" When he & his classmates sang "Proud to be an American" at his Spring concert that year, there wasn't a dry eye in the house. There are lessons to be learned and quiet moments to share. Your column captures it perfectly.

ReplyHave to lament about the lost art of writing and worse: the further disintegration of the English language as my 14-year-old son corrects my texts, "Mom, you're not supposed to spell out the word 'know.' It's 'no.'" I will continue to use proper English in my texts. I will hand write notes and to-do items on my wall calendar. And -- dare I say it -- I will continue to WRITE my Christmas cards and thank-you notes. Thanks, Lynn, for reminding me how old I really am; but seriously, enjoyed your first column and looking forward to more.
