Good morning everyone. I'm back from vacation today, and offering a big thank you to Margie Peterson for keeping an eye on things while I was gone. Here's five things to know today: 1. City Council meets Wednesday night at 6. Among the items on the agenda is a public hearing on the 2013 community development block grant. 2. Also meeting this week: the Easton Area School Board, Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. and the city's zoning hearing board, tonight at 6:30. 3. Students move back in at Lafayette College Thursday morning.  4. The final installment of this year's Movies in the Park is scheduled for this week:  5. Today is Aug. 20. The world's first round-the-world telegram was sent on this day in 1911.

National Night Out comes to Easton, city council meets, and more...

Good morning everyone. It's Monday, which means we're using this spce to look at the week ahead. 1. National Night Out arrives Tuesday around Easton from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. It's an annual crime fighting measure aimed at getting people to know their neighbors.  2. Easton City Council meets Wednesday at 6 p.m. One of the things on its agenda: adding meter zones for parking along Ferry Street. 3. The city's Movies in the Park schedule continues this week, with showings of "A Smile as Big as the Moon" tonight at the Easton Area Neighborhood Center, Tuesday at Nevin Park and Wednesday at the Easton Area Community Center. 4. 6 Things to Do in Easton This Weekend

Canal Days, Movies in the Park, Easton Restaurant Week, and more...

The weekend is here, and that means it's time to look ahead at some of the things that are happening around the city. 1. The National Canal Museum will hold Canal Days, Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Hugh Moore Park. Admission is $5 per car. There's really more events than we can list here, so check out the museum website to get a complete rundown. 2. Easton Restaurant Week begins Sunday, and lasts through August 4. We published a list of all the participating restaurants earlier in the week. 3. Movies in the Park presents Mamma Mia!, starting after dark at Scott Park. 4. Good morning everyone. It's the start of a new week, and here are some things that are happening. 1. Easton City Council holds its regular meeting Wednesday at 6 p.m. at city hall. 2. Also meeting: the city's Zoning Hearing Board, tonight at 6:30 p.m.  3. The city's Movies in the Park program continues this week, with Journey 2: The Mysterious Island playing Tuesday and Wednesday at the Easton Area Neighborhood Center and Nevin Park, respectively, and Dolphin Tale Thursday at the Easton Area Community Center. Good morning everyone. Time to look ahead at what's happening this weekend in Easton. 1. The city's Live in the Square concert series continues tonight in Centre Square at 7:30 p.m. with the The Heavy Beat*. 2. Movies in the Park's latest installment is Saturday after dark, with Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol showing at Scott Park. 3. The Easton School of Rock plays a free concert tonight at 6:30 p.m. 4. Easton Plans Summer Entertainment

Movies in the Park returns this weekend, with other programs to follow.

Easton's Movies in the Park program will return this summer, starting this weekend at Scott Park.  In addition, the city says three entertainment programs -- Summer in the Square, and concerts by the Easton Municipal Band and Lehigh Valley Italian American Band -- will also pick up in the next few weeks. The schedule for this year's Movies in the Park -- which start after dark, weather permitting-- is: June July August   The Summer in the Square program, typically aimed at kids, will begin the at the end of June, and runs each Thursday in the southwest quadrant of Centre Square from noon to 1 p.m: The municipal band will play three Saturday shows at Riverside Park, each starting at 6:30 p.m: July 14, August 18 and September 8. Five Things to Do This Weekend in Easton

This weekend brings the return of the Haunted Walking Tour of Easton, and more.

1. Halloween is a few weeks away, and that means the return of the Haunted Walking Tour of Easton, hitting Downtown tonight and Saturday. The tour combines "centuries of fact and fiction" to create a spooky experience. Five Things to Do This Weekend in Easton

The weekend is upon us, and as usual, there's quite a bit happening. Here are five things that caught our eye. 1. Easton Haunts opens, just off -- where else -- 13th Street. Escape the clutches of a mad scientist in the "13th Street Fear Factory," or watch the walls come to life in the "3-D Freak House."  It runs from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Sunday, and 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday at 1250 Bushkill Drive.
