Glendon bakery owners express gratitude to those who helped them rebuild.
For most local bakeries, the Tuesday before Lent -- AKA Fastnacht Day -- is a big deal. But at Tombler's Bakery in Glendon, Tuesday was a much bigger deal than usual. It was the bakery's grand reopening following a 2011 fire that destroyed its Industrial Drive building, and owners Karen and Skip Drake had a lot of people to thank. Customers. Firefighters. Easton's zoning board approved a temporary kitchen for Tombler's Bakery.
Last year, a fire destroyed Tombler's Home Bakery in Glendon. But the company hasn't given up; it hopes to move into new building until the end of the year. Until that happens, owner Karen Drake will be making her baked goods in Easton, using the kitchen at Temple Covenant of Peace synagogue. The Easton Zoning Hearing Board gave Drake approval Monday night to use the synagogue kitchen for the rest of the year. "We looked for 5 months before we were able to find space at the temple," Drake told the board.
