Easton Zoners Approve South Side Store

Easton's zoning hearing board gives OK to Folk Street store, insurance office.

Easton's Zoning Hearing Board has given the greenlight to a Bethlehem man who wants to open a convenience store on the city's South Side. Kumash Patel says he plans to operate a corner store out of 329-331 Folk St., inside what was known for years as Lucy's. Patel says he plans to sell snacks, household products and -- possibly -- food. "Depending on the demand we can expand into hot food for the neighborhood," Patel said.  The board had no objections, but stressed that Patel could only serve take-out food, and turn the store into a place where people could sit and eat. Neighbors Penny and Donald Border had concerns about the store's arrival. "My concern isn't who is buying the store, but who is going to frequent it," Penny Border said. …

Clerk Assaulted, Shot Fired in South Side Robbery

Easton police say two men held up Ram Grocery on Berwick Street, attacked clerk, fired shot.

Easton police say two men robbed a South Side grocery store Tuesday evening, attacking the clerk and firing a gunshot. According to the Express Times, the robbery happened at 7:10 p.m. at Ram Grocery at 393 W. Berwick St.  Police say two men took part in the robbery; one of them had a gun and fired a shot. The men assaulted the clerk, who was hospitalized, police said. The men were both described as thin, one about 5'8'', the other 5'10''. Anyone with information should call Det.
