How did Lehigh Valley's Amanda Seyfried derail Anne Hathaway's plan for what to wear on the red carpet at the 2013 Academy Awards?
The 2013 Oscar ceremony is history but there's still buzz about what the stars wore on the red carpet and why. Turns out Lehigh Valley star Amanda Seyfried may have caused her "Les Miserables" co-star Anne Hathaway to make a hasty last-minute gown selection change. Allentown native Seyfried looked stunning in a pale appliqued dress by British designer Alexander McQueen. Reports now say Hathaway saw a photo of the gown Seyfried planned to wear and then changed her choice because the gowns were so similar. Hathaway said she was planning to wear a Valentino gown up until just three hours before the awards ceremony. Two Lehigh Valley actors are featured in films nominated for Best Picture at the 2013 Academy Awards
The red carpet will been rolled out at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood for the stars tonight at the 2013 Academy Awards. When does the Academy Awards begin? The awards show will start at 8:30 p.m. EST on ABC and is scheduled to last three hours. It will be hosted by "Family Guy" creator/star Seth MacFarlane and televised live in more than 225 countries. There will be pre-show broadcast for the Oscars ceremony that will begin at 7 p.m. on ABC. Lehigh Valley Connections Leading the Oscar race is Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln," which has 12 nominations. Director Steven Spielberg's historical drama "Lincoln" earned a leading 12 nominations Thursday for the 85th Annual Academy Awards, followed by Ang Lee's "Life of Pi" with 11. "Lincoln" includes a cameo by Lehigh Valley actor Dane Dehaan. The musical "Les Miserables," directed by Tom Hooper, and David O. Russell's "Silver Linings Playbook" tied with eight nods each. "Lincoln" was nominated for best picture and gave Spielberg his eighth best director nomination. A win would be his third in the director category. It's the eighth film Spielberg has had in the running for best picture (''Schindler's List'' won in 1994). Hugo and The Artist, two movies dealing with the silent movie era, are up for best picture.
Who’d have thought that the race for the best picture Oscar a dozen years into the 21st century would come down to a pair of films, both of which offer tribute to the silent age of cinema? One of them, The Artist (10 nominations), a French film by writer/director Michel Hazanavicius and shot in black and white, actually is a silent movie, and pays homage to old Hollywood as it made the transition from silent pictures to the talkies.
