Allentown's Thom Browne Designs Michelle Obama Inauguration Coat and Dress

Fashion designer Thom Browne, who grew up in Allentown, designed the navy silk coat and dress First Lady Michelle Obama wore Monday to the presidential inauguration ceremony.

Fashion designer Thom Browne, who grew up in Allentown, designed the outfit First Lady Michelle Obama wore at Monday's presidential inauguration ceremony. Browne, a noted menswear designer who recently lauched a womenswear collection, designed a silk navy coat and dress that drew inspiration from a man's silk jacquard tie and the First Lady herself, he told the Los Angeles Times. The coat had a fitted bodice and skirt that skimmed over a dress of navy, loden, gray, pink and white jacquard.  "She has a really strong sensibility and style of her own," Browne said in the article. Browne, who graduated from William Allen High School in 1984, is the brother of state Sen. Pat Browne, (R-16th District). Obama has apparently worn a Browne design …

Michelle Obama Urges 2,400 in Bethlehem to Get 'One More'

First lady Michelle Obama delivers fiery speech before 2,400 supporters at Moravian College.

First Lady Michelle Obama came to Bethlehem Thursday night and delivered a fiery speech aimed at inspiring the 2,400 in attendance to get at least one more person to the polls in November to help re-elect her husband. “Barack has said this election will be even closer than the last one. This election could come to those last few thousand votes, particularly in this state,” she told the standing-room-only crowd gathered at Moravian College in the Johnston Hall gym. “When you think of a few thousand votes spread out across the state, that could be the one new voter that you register, that one neighbor you get to the polls. That could be the difference. That could be the one that puts us over the top,” she continued. The first lady …

Fans Praise Michelle Obama Bethlehem Speech

Lehigh Valley residents welcome First Lady's words on economy, education.

If you were to make a list of potential gifts to bring a visiting first lady, you might not think "shovel." But that's what Chris Adams brought for Michelle Obama for her visit to Bethlehem's Moravian College Thursday evening. Granted, this wasn't just any shovel. It was designed by Green Heron Tools, the New Tripoli company Adams works for. It's called "Hers," specifically designed for women. "And we know Michelle Obama loves to garden," Adams said, waiting in a long line outside the college's Johnston Hall for Obama's speech. The only queston was whether she'd be able to bring it inside. "I don't want to get tackled by the Secret Service," Adams said. A campaign volunteer told Adams she wouldn't be tackled, but wasn't sure the shovel …

Mayor Callahan Warms Up Waiting Obama Crowd

With more than an hour to go before Michelle Obama arrives, mayor exhorts crowd to work to get president re-elected.

With more than an hour to go before Michelle Obama was scheduled to arrive in Bethlehem, Mayor John Callahan warmed up the crowd with a call to action for those who filled the Johnston Hall gymnasium at Moravian College. “We’ve got 88 days to make a difference,” Callahan declared. “Are you ready to go?” “Yeah!” the crowd of perhaps 1,000 people shouted back. “Are you ready to go?” he asked again. “Yeah!” the crowd responded. The mayor briefly recalled his time as a student at Moravian, an opportunity he had thanks to affordable student loans and Pell Grants. “Without those kinds of programs, a school like Moravian would have been out of reach for me,” said Callahan, emphasizing that the re-election of the president is important to …

Michelle Obama Fans Line Up in Easton

Dozens of people wait in line at the Obama campaign office in Easton to get tickets for first lady's visit.

When asked why he was in line for tickets to see Michelle Obama, Ian Murphy's answer was short and to the point. "She's the first lady. Simple enough," said Murphy, a Moravian College student and downtown Easton resident. And he predicted that her visit to his college on Thursday evening will be the first of many Lehigh Valley stops by Team Obama and Team Romney in the next few months. "I think it's going be an important place in the election," Murphy said Tuesday at the Obama campaign office in Easton, as he joined dozens of people in line for tickets for the speech by the first lady. Tickets went on sale at 11 a.m. Tuesday for the speech, scheduled for 6:50 p.m. Thursday at Moravian's Johnston Hall.  Bethlehem Township resident Sandy …
