Easton's new congressman says he's setting up an office in the city. U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright will open an office at 436 Northampton Street, his office said in a news release. He'll operate out of an office on the 9th floor of Easton city hall until the renovations on the building are finished. Cartwright -- who was sworn in earlier this month -- has been named to the house's Economic Development Subcommittee, a joint task force on gun violence, and was elected "class president" of this year's freshman congress. Matt Cartwright, a Scranton area attorney and political newcomer, is Northampton County's newest congressman. Cartwright, a Democrat, will represent Pennsylvania's newly created 17th district, which includes the Easton and Nazareth areas. With 50 percent of precincts reporting, Cartwright had picked up 63 percent of the vote to Republican challenger Laureen Cummings' 36 percent, according to the Associated Press. In Northampton County, with 33 percent of precincts reporting, Cartwright was leading Cummings 56 percent to 43 percent, according to unofficial results.
