Stronger Gun Laws Wanted in Pa., Poll Says

See what Pennsylvania voters think of stricter gun laws and add your opinion.

Stricter gun laws are a topic many people are talking about. A number of local college presidents have signed a letter asking for more gun control, including Jane McAuliffe of Bryn Mawr College, Kathleen Ownes of Gwynedd-Mercy College, Joanne V. Creighton of Haverford College, Daniel H. Weiss of Lafayette College, Peyton Helm of Muhlenburg College, Rebecca Chopp of Swarthmore College, Bobby Fong of Ursinus College and Rev. Peter M. Donohue of Villanova University. Pennsylvania voters think the federal government should have stricter gun laws, according to the latest poll from Quinnipiac University. The poll found 60 percent of those polled are in favor of stricter laws, while 5 percent thought the laws should be less strict and 32 percent …

Anti-Violence Vigil Draws 50 to Street Where Woman Was Killed

A candlelight vigil for peace was held on a Bethlehem street where a gun battle last weekend outside a Puerto Rican club left one woman dead and five others hurt.

  More than 50 people stood in a parking lot along E. Third Street in South Bethlehem Friday night to hold a candlelight vigil for peace, to speak out against gun violence on city streets and to pray for the young woman who was gunned down a few feet away six nights ago. “We need to start healing as a community,” said Guillermo Lopez, a longtime Bethlehem community activist and one of the event’s organizers. “Yolanda Morales died much too young.” Bethlehem Police on Friday charged Rene Figueroa, 32, of Allentown, with homicide in the death of Morales, a 23-year-old from Bethlehem. Weed & Seed Rallies Against Illegal Guns in Easton

Easton's Weed & Seed program is asking city churches to hold anti-gun violence vigils Sunday.

Sunday is the one year anniversary of the mass shooting in Arizona that killed six people, and wounded 13 others, including Congresswoman Gabrilelle Giffords. In Easton, the city's Weed & Seed program is marking the occasion by asking churches in the community to hold some sort of vigil to remember the victims of gun violence. Laura Acetta, who heads the program, said seven churches in Easton have agreed to participate in some fashion at services Sunday: River Of God Fellowship, Agape Radio Ministry, Green Pastures, First Presbyterian Church of Easton, Christ United Methodist, Legacy Ministries, and the Rock Church.
