Police are investigation a fatal shooting on Easton's South Side.
Easton police are investigating a fatal shooting on the city's South Side Friday evening. Police cordoned off the 100 block of West St. Joseph Street, and had removed a body from a home there just after 9:30 p.m. Northampton County Coroner Zach Lysek was on the scene, and has ruled the death a homicide, police said. According to police, officers were called to the scene at 5:45 p.m. for the report of gunfire, and found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Police are looking for two men connected to the shooting. They were seen running from the scene, heading "west on St. Joseph’s Street or south through the parking lot of neighboring businesses," a police news release said. Three weeks before he'd become a wanted homicide suspect, Naheem Adams showed off a gun he'd just picked up. "Me and my girl just got back from New York, and look what I got," he said. That's according to court documents in which Easton police say witnesses have tied Adams to the death of George Jeter on July 27. Jeter, 28, of S. 14th Street, was shot to death on the 1400 block of Butler Street. According to court documents, a witness saw Adams -- who goes by the nickname "Dot" -- fleeing the scene. Another witness saw Adams, 20, in the vicinity of the shooting before Jeter was killed. Police say they recovered two small caliber shell casings from the scene. Patrolman Eric Campbell is the officer who shot a man on the South Side this week.
Easton police have identified the officer involved in a shooting earlier this week on the South Side. Police say it was Patrolman Eric Campbell, a six-year veteran of the force, who shot a man during a shots-fired investigation Tuesday night, according to a news release. The release also officially identified Nelson A. Mayers, 25, as the man shot and wounded by Campbell, who works the 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. shift. This was the first time police have named Campbell or Mayers, although Mayers family members and witnesses had identified Mayers the night of the shooting.
