HBO Making Miniseries From Lafayette Prof's Book

New Tom Hanks/Steven Spielberg WWII series is based on Donald Miller's 'Masters of the Air.'

In the last 16 years, Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks have teamed up three times to tell the story of World War II. First came Saving Private Ryan, with Hanks acting and Spielberg directing. They followed it with two miniseries for HBO: Band of Brothers -- about American troops in Europe -- in 2001, and The Pacific -- which followed the war against Japan -- nine years later. Now they've reteamed for another HBO miniseries, this one based on a book by a Lafayette College professor. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the network is developing a new miniseries that "will explore the aerial wars through the eyes of enlisted men of the Eighth Air Force -- known as the men of the Mighty Eighth."
