Easton Attorney Running For District Judge

Antonia Grifo, who has practiced in the city for 30 years, joins race for Gay Elwell's seat.

After 30 years of practicing law in Easton, Antonia Grifo wants to change careers. Grifo announced Monday she'll run for district judge, hoping to fill the vacancy left last month by the death of Judge Gay Elwell. "I cannot say that before a few weeks ago I had considered this position," she said told reporters at her downtown Easton office. "I assumed the late Gay Elwell was going to be serving us for a long time." She made her announcement joined by friends and members of her family, whom Grifo said had convinced her she had "the right experience, right from the start" to serve as judge for what is considered one of Northampton County's busiest courts. Easton District Court Has a New Home

Starting today, District Judge Gay Elwell will hold court in a new office at 400 Northampton Street.

Starting this morning, Easton District Judge Gay Elwell has a new home. The judge and her staff have moved to new offices, in the first floor of the National Building at 400 Northampton Street. The actual move happened Thursday, but today is the first day the new office is open for business, at least for a few hours. (Due to the holiday, all county offices will close at noon today.) The suite in the National Building has been vacant since 2009, when the Morning Call closed its bureau in Easton. Elwell said the new space will give her staff more room to work. The building's owners constructed a new courtroom, and made other renovations. The judge had been in Centre Square since 1997. Before that, her court was on South Third Street, in the …
