5 Things to Do in Easton This Weekend

Mark Russell at the State Theatre, two egg hunts, and more...

Easter's not until next weekend, but that doesn't mean it's too early for your kids to hunt for Easter eggs. They'll get two chances this weekend: first on Satuday at 3 p.m. at Richards Field at Easton Area High School. The hunt—sponsored by the high school baseball team—is open to all children up to grade four. Then on Sunday, the city of Easton sponsors its annual egg hunt at Cottingham Stadium. That hunt—for kids 4 to 7—will begin at 11:30 a.m., rain or shine. You can also learn how to dye Easter eggs with natural ingredients Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Bachmann Publick House. 6 Things to Do in Easton This Weekend

Go drinking with zombies, sample apples, and buy antiques...

Good morning everyone. It's Friday, which means it's time to look ahead at what's happening this weekend. 1. "When there's no more room in hell, the dead will drink in Easton..." Ok, so maybe I'm misquoting Dawn of the Dead. The point is, this weekend brings the first-ever Zombie Pub Crawl to the city. It kicks off Saturday at Drinky's at 7 p.m. Other participating establishments include Black & Blue, Porters, Slainte, Two Rivers, Latino Heat and the Lafayette Bar. You can buy tickets in advance for $20 at any of the bars or at the Easton Main Street Initiative. It's $25 on the night of the crawl. For more information, visit the Zombie Pub Crawl's Facebook page. 2. The Easton Farmers' Market celebrates Apple Day Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p…

Easton Police Investigating Downtown Brawl

A large altercation Monday morning in downtown Easton had people fighting in the streets, and left at least one property damaged.

Easton police are investigating a large fight that happened early Monday outside a Downtown bar. The brawl happened just after 2 a.m. outside Mother's* in Centre Square. A resident who lives on Northampton Street e-mailed Patch about the fight Monday morning. "Thirty to forty people spilled out into the streets viscously fighting each other to the point that someone got thrown through the front window at Connexions," he wrote, referring to the ConneXions art gallery.  Lt. Matthew Gerould described it as "a large fight that officers just came upon," with the brawlers easily outnumbering the officers on the scene. Several people involved ran away, Gerould said. He expects two or three people will be charged with disorderly conduct. *An …

Good morning everyone. Friday is here, and that means we're looking ahead to what's happening this weekend. 1. Looking to cool off on Saturday? Officials to Investigate Easton's Double-Parking Problem

Easton officials promised extra enforcement in areas of the city chronically troubled by double parking and other illegal parking practices that pose a safety hazard.

Complaints about cars that chronically double park and fail to feed parking meters have city officials promising to look at the depth of the problem and take action across Easton's Downtown. Double parking by private vehicles while running in and out of a store is illegal, but since the infraction happens quickly, it's rarity when the drivers of those vehicles are caught and ticketed, officials noted. Ordinances don't prohibit double parking for delivery vehicles, Easton Police Chief Carl Scalzo said at Tuesday's City Council Conference. Craft gallery Connexions manager Anthony Marraccini said illegal parking is a particular problem near the corner of Second and Northampton streets, across from Connexions. He added that he believes …

Thanks for the "ink" on this subject. I appreciate any attention paid to the issues on the 200 block. One correction, Connexions isn't a craft gallery specifically. We mostly deal in fine art, tho we have hand-crafted gifts as well. We also serve as a cultural hub offering music and other forms of entertainment on a regular basis. I know that may seem pedantic, but in our industry such …   more ›

5 Things to Do in Easton This Weekend

Just because icy weather is here doesn't mean there aren't things to do.

Hello everyone. I'm writing this on a day when the thermometer barely got above 15 degrees, and thus feel grateful that most of what's happening this weekend in Easton will keep you indoors. (Update, Friday morning: It will, of course, be warmer this weekend, thus rendeing the previous sentence moot.) 1. The Brian Molnar Band performs Friday night at 10 p.m. at Porter's Pub. 2. Jack Wright and Guests, an improv jazz ensemble, performs Saturday night at ConneXions Gallery, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. 3. More jazz: Floyd King Presents, also Saturday at 9 p.m. at the Lafayette Bar on Fourth Street.  4. How the Guitar Helped a Local Veteran

Dillon Miller, whose group Sparrows performs tonight at Connexions, tells his story.

When asked about his group's influences, Dillon Miller names the greats. "Elliot Smith. Jeff Buckley. Nick Drake," says Miller, one third of the pop-folk trio Sparrows, which is holding an EP release party tonight at Connexions art gallery. The formula also includes some prog rock and old-time folk and roots music, brought together by Miller, Seth Phillips and Chelsea Reed, all Easton Area High School graduates. Miller has played music for much of his life, but the guitar is a fairly recent addition. He began playing four years ago, just before his National Guard unit was sent to Iraq. The guitar, which his parents shipped over to him, helped him get through the war. "The big thing when you've over there is you get very little private time…
