A new police chief, the Easton Area School Board meets, and more...
Good morning everyone 1. Today is the deadline to register to vote in next's month primary. The voter registration office in Easton is open until 4:30 p.m. 2. The Easton Area School Board has its regular meeting Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the district offices at 1801 Bushkill Drive. 3. City Council meets at 6 p.m. Wednesday night, and is expected to swear in Capt. Carl Scalzo as Easton's new police chief. 4. Dr. Dru Germanoski will give a lecture on fracking Wednesday at noon at the Nurture Nature Center, part of the center's brown bag lunch series. 5. Today is March 26. Diana Ross, James Caan and Leonard Nimoy all celebrate birthdays today.

City council meets, Nurture Nature hosts an emergency management forum, and more...
Good morning everyone. This is usually one of the easier parts of my job, but it's kind of a chore today, since we're dealing with a glitch in our calendar that's listing some events at the wrong times. Our tech support people are working on it. In the meantime, please click on an event if you're interested in it to be sure of the correct time. At any rate, here's five things to know today: 1. Scalzo, a second-generation Easton police officer, will take over for Chief Larry Palmer.
Calling it "my proudest moment," Capt. Carl Scalzo took the reins of the Easton police department Wednesday. Scalzo -- who has essentially been the department's second-in-command since last summer -- takes over for Chief Larry Palmer, who was hired Tuesday to run Palmer Township's police force. "This is a bittersweet day," Mayor Sal Panto said Wednesday at a City Hall news conference to announce Scalzo's appointment. City Council is expected to vote on the appointment March 14. Scalzo, 41, is a second generation Easton cop. His father, Carl Sr., served as a captain in the 1970s. Carol, I also am a non-smoker, but I disagree with regulations telling smokers where they can and can't smoke. However, to help your cause go directly to Mayor Panto. He had no problem telling smokers to stay out of center square with their smokes and I'd bet he'll be willing to inappropriately use his "executive order" yet again to tell more citizens what they can and can't do, in their own …   more ›
