Fatal Fire, Changing Downtown Top 2013 News

A look back at some of the biggest Easton area stories of 2013.

It was year of big changes for Easton, both downtown and elsewhere.

The city sold the Alpha Building, broke ground for a new city hall, and saw several new businesses open.

The Easton Area School District welcomed a new superintendent, said goodbye to some veteran school board members, and saw its controversial "I Heart Boobies" case head to the Supreme Court.

There were darker shades to 2013 as well, such as the dramatic, deadly fire on Spring Garden Street that claimed the lives of three members of the same family.

It wasn't as violent a year as 2012, but the city still recorded three homicides during 2013: the death of Damian Robinson at Eddie G's in February, and the hit-and-run death of Abraham Rivera along Lehigh Drive and the shooting death of Amanda Stratford in the West Ward, both in August.

Some crimes managed to wound without guns. Richard Freer, of Palmer Township, was accused of running a $10 million Ponzi scheme that took money from several Easton area residents.

Above you'll find a list of our stories on these topics. Here's to a better, safer 2014.
