Tell Us: Should Easton/P'Burg Game Stay Live?

Easton alumni trying to raise enough money to keep live broadcast of annual Thanksgiving game.

Earlier this week, we reported on the Easton Area School District's new deal with Service Electric, which will broadcast the Easton/Phillipsburg Thanksgiving Day football game for the next three years.

As part of the arrangement, the game will no longer be broadcast live.

Easton Athletic Director James Pokrivsak said this is part of an effort to sell more tickets to the actual event.

"We see the trend of live TV taking away from that game," he told the school board earlier this week.

Last year, the district lost $9,000 in unsold tickets. Pokrivsak said the game will also be broadcast online.

The agreement with Service Electric calls for the cable company to—among other things—give $2,500 to the game, provide live coverage of pre-game events, and broadcast commercials to promote the game.

Now, a group of Easton area alumni are trying to raise enough money to keep the game live.

That's according to the Express-Times, which says the Class of 1946's reunion committee is hoping to get other graduating classes to come up with enough cash to match the $2,500 the district would get from Service Electric.

The actual amount the district lost last year was more than three times as much, with 900 $10 tickets unsold.

Tell us what you think. Will a tape delay convince you to attend the game in person? Or should the game continue to be broadcast live? Give us your answer in the comments section below.
