Greater Shiloh Church 5K Walk/Run of Faith

On Saturday, September 22 at 9:00 AM, members of the Greater Shiloh Church, a church whose history of serving the Lehigh Valley community dates back to the turn of the 20th century, and of the community-at-large will gather to celebrate good health.  The walk will commence at 403 Pastor Fred Davis Street in Easton.  The 3.1-mile course will stretch along Canal Street to Third Street, around Larry Holmes Drive to Centre Square and back to the church.

The impetus for the walk/run was the near fatal heart attack that Senior Pastor Phillip Davis experienced on August 14 of last year.  "I felt empowered to tell the congregation to become more aware of not only our spiritual health but of our physical health in general," the 46-year-old said in a recent interview. "I put a theme out to the church to put your house in order."  In demonstration of that empowerment, Pastor Davis cut meat from his diet and has shed 25 pounds in the last year.  He's committed himself to an exercise regimen, and has brought many of his flock along.

In addition, the walk is consistent with one of the five ‘F’ themes of the church for 2012 and beyond: faith, family, finances, fitness and future.   The registration fee is $30.00 per person and proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society and Nehemiah House, a 12-bed transitional housing program for addicts organized by Greater Shiloh.  Participants can register for the 5K Walk/Run of Faith by calling the church at (610) 252-5640, or, by going to the church website at www.greatershilohchurch.com and clicking on events.
