Easton and Phillipsburg Will Compete in 'Challenge Series'

New Service Electric sports series designed to enhance annual Easton/P'burg football rivalry.

This school year, the rivalry between Easton and Phillipsburg will be about more than just high school football.

In the weeks before it airs the annual Thanksgiving Day game between the two schools, Service Electric Cable will broadcast more than 10 other athletic events as part of the "Easton & Phillipsburg Challenge Series," which is designed to enhance the 107-year-old cross-river rivalry.

"It takes what we're doing into the homes of a lot of people who might not otherwise see these great kids in action," Easton Area Superintendent John Reinhart said Wednesday at a news conference announcing the series.

The series will feature both boys and girls teams, and includes cross country, field hockey, tennis, soccer, basketball, wrestling, swimming, baseball, lacrosse, softball and track.

And of course, football.

Service Electric is showing the game for the first time this year instead of RCN. A partnership with WFMZ allows them to show the game live, with no TV time-outs for commercials.
