State Says Riegelsville Kids Can Leave Easton

The Pennsylvania Board of Education says students from Riegelsville can attend school in Palisades.

Students from the Bucks County borough of Riegelsville have been cleared to transfer out of the Easton Area School District into the Palisades School District.

The state Board of Education ruled that students from Riegelsville can start attending Palisades schools beginning in the 2013-2014 school year, according to the Morning Call. The ruling affects about 50 children, the newspaper said.

Riegelsville sits about 11 miles south of the city, and its students who attend Easton Area schools must actually travel through a second Northampton County School District -- Wilson Area -- to get to school.

Parents had been lobbying for years to get their kids into the closer, and better performing Palisades schools. A report by the state found "no compelling reason not to approve the transfer," although it also noted that it had received some letters arguing against the switch.
