Prayers for a New Pope: St. Jane School Adopts a Cardinal

The St. Jane Frances de Chantal School in Wilson has adopted a cardinal to help in prayers for a decision on who should succeed Pope Benedict XVI.

St. Jane Frances de Chantal School in Wilson is offering its support and prayers in the decision to replace the retired Pope Benedict XVI.

On its Facebook page, the school posted this statement:

"The School Community has adopted a cardinal...please keep Cardinal Zenon Grocholewski (from Poland) in your prayers as they meet to elect a new pope!"

There is a website where you can adopt a cardinal who you will support through prayers during the coming weeks before and during the conclave.

Pope Benedict XVI resigned Feb. 28 due to declining health. Benedict, 85, became the oldest pope seven years ago.

Allentown Diocese Bishop John Barres called the pope's decision to resign "an act of great courage and humility."

The diocese represents 270,000 Catholics, including about 67,000 in Lehigh County and 76,000 in Northampton County.

The last pope to resign was in 1245, for Pope Celestine V.
