PA Students Rank 28th in the Nation in Advanced Placement Exam Scores

Nearly 16 percent of high school graduates in the state scored 3 or higher on an AP Exam - up from 9.5 percent in 2003.

Pennsylvania is ranked 28th in the nation in Advanced Placement exam scores for 2013 public high school graduates.

In a report released by the college board, 15.9 percent of high school graduates in the state scored 3 or higher on an AP Exam. This is up from 9.5 percent in 2003.

Maryland, Connecticut and Virginia took the top three spots respectively. Advanced Placement Exams are scored on a 5-point scale.

According to the College Board, which administers the test, there has been a 7.9 point increase in the percentage of U.S. public high school graduates scoring a 3 or higher on an AP Exam since 2003. Seventeen states across the country exceed the national average.
