Girls Outperformed Boys in Easton PSSA

A breakdown of the latest test scores.

In the , female students are smarter than their male counterparts in math and reading, according to state statistics.

The released the results of the 2011 Pennsylvania System of School Assessments (PSSA), administered in the spring.

In analyzing the, we broke them down among how students fared regarding their genders and ethnicities. The math and reading tests are given to grades 3-8 and 11.

The 2,207 female students who took the math test scored 80.9 percent in terms of being advanced and proficient, just edging out the male students -- 2,200 took the math test -- who had 80.6 percent.

For reading, females -- 2,204 took the test -- scored 78 percent in terms of being advanced and proficient while males -- 2,211 were tested -- were 68.4 percent advanced and proficient.

White students were 86.8 percent advanced or proficient in math and 80.5 percent advanced or proficient in reading.

Black students were 67.9 percent advanced or proficient in math and 58.9 percent advanced or proficient in reading.

Hispanic students were 70.7 percent advanced or proficient in math and 60.5 percent proficient or advanced in reading.

Asian students were 90 percent advanced or proficient in math and 81.2 percent proficient or advanced in reading.

Overall, the school district topped or matched state averages for reading, writing, math and science.
