Future of EASD's "800 Building" Undecided

The Easton Area School District will wait until next month to decide what to do with old administration building.

members all seem to agree that something needs to be done with the old administration building on Northampton Street in Easton.

But what that "something" is remains to be seen.

That will give members of the community time to go before the board at its Feb. 7 committee meeting to talk about possible ideas for the vacant building.

"It would be respectful and polite to hear their findings," said board member .

Board member Tim Reilly suggested putting the property back on the market just in case, to be ahead of the game.

The building is in poor condition, as board members learned up close when they toured the property Tuesday. Earlier this month, district business manager Michael Simonetta, quoted in the Express-Times, said it would cost $18,000 to make repairs to the property.

The district has a few options here, said solicitor John Freund: it could sell the building publicly, it could hold a private sale, or it could give it to a non-profit group.

No matter what the solution, the board needs to act soon, said member William Rider.

"We need to bring this to head," he said. "I don't know how long it can sit there. The reality is, it's an eyesore right now."
