Frat Says Lafayette College Owes It $208,000
Chi Phi fraternity alumni are suing Lafayette College to collect revenue it says the school should pay them for using its 100-year-old fraternity house, according to The Morning Call.
Alumni from the Chi Phi fraternity at Lafayette College are the college, saying it owes the frat $208,000 for using its house on campus and allowing the building to fall into disrepair, according to a Morning Call story.
Fraternity alumni are seeking control of the house, called Vallamont, at a trial in Northampton County Court.
The college started using the house in 2005 after the Chi Phi chapter was closed because a keg of beer was discovered there. Lafayette made a deal with the fraternity that the college could occupy the house for six years while Chi Phi sought to be reinstated by the college board of trustees, according to testimony by alumnus Jerry Blakeslee. The board rejected the fraternity's application last year and Chi Phi is seeking to take over the house without recognition from the college, the Call reported.

Lafayette's Dean of Students James Krivoski testified that the fraternity had a history of bad behavior and the period of exile for Chi Phi was a way to avoid a permanent ban.
