Easton Schools Lose Security Guards

The Easton Area School District has done away with security guards at its schools.

When people arrived at the front of an Easton Area elementary school and hit the buzzer to get inside, a security guard would buzz them in.

Not anymore.

The has done away with security guards, yet another casualty of a summer that saw more than 100 teachers and 50 staffers lose their jobs in the wake of closing a budget deficit.

Security guards at , Forks, Palmer, , Shawnee, Tracy and elementary schools were eliminated as part of the Easton Area School District's layoffs for 2012-13, according to the Express-Times.

What do you think? Do Easton's elementary schools need security guards? Tell us in the comments, and take our poll.

It's scary for us parents to think the one place our kids are safe is in school. Now they take that away from us.

The bus stop and buses are the places where we should be more concerned about their safety. Easton City code requires every elementary school bus stop to have a crossing guard...at least it used to. The elementary schools lock the doors and you need to have an appointment, or have someone let you in. If it is office staff or a security guard is indifferent since the guards did little more than sit at the desk and watch you sign in and out (Cheston did it this way). Keep in mind that evil doers will find a way around this regardless of security guards. The schools in EASD at the elementary level do a pretty good job at safeguarding our kids. I think losing these positions in this fiscal environment is an OK choice, all things considered.

i would rather see a security guard than all the assistants and vice principals running around screwing things up and being overpaid.. the security guard or guards earn their money what does the top heavy administration do?
