Cost of the "Boobies" Case: $50,000

Newspaper story says most of that cost covered by school district insurance.

Taxpayers in the Easton Area School District have paid $17,500 to fight and appeal a federal free speech lawsuit over breast cancer awareness bracelets.

Actually, the figure is a bit higher, the Morning Call reported Monday: $50,000. But most of that cost is covered by the district's insurance. The district has been in court since last year, when the parents of two middle school students filed a lawsuit saying the school had no right to bar their daughters from wearing the bracelets, which bore the slogan "I Heart Boobies."

In April, a federal judge sided with the girls, and the the district to appeal the ruling.
