5 Things I Learned From Cheston's Science Fair

I stopped by science fair earlier this evening. Students had shown off their work earlier in the day to professional scientists.

I like any assignment where I can learn things; that's one of the reasons I like what I do. And that was the case here, even if I was learning about things from kids no older than 10.

Here are five of them:

1. A lion's roar can be heard from five miles away. That means if a lion roared at Cheston, you'd hear it at the . (Ashley Amato, first grade)

2. All polar bears are left-handed. (Imani Thomas, second grade)

3. A year on Jupiter is the equivalent of 11.8 years on Earth. (Jaden Newton, second grade)

4. Leave cheeseburgers from Burger King and Wendy's exposed to the air for five weeks, and they will rot. Do the same thing with a burger from McDonald's, and nothing happens. (Makayla Young, second grade)

5. A glass of water, two pencils sharpened at both ends, connected by wires to a nine-volt battery: this process extracts the hydrogen from the water. (Carolyn DeRosa, fourth grade)
