Wednesday is the Deadline to Weigh in on Redistricting

New map would put Easton back into state Sen. Lisa Boscola's district.

Wednesday is the deadline for residents who want to share their opinion on the proposed district changes. 

The city of Easton would move to a state Senate district closer to home and would retain its current state House seat under a statewide plan.

The city is now part of the sprawling 24th Senate district, represented by Pennsburg-based . Under the plan, it would go to the 18th district, represented by Democrat Lisa Boscola of Bethlehem.

The plan would significantly change the makeup of both districts. Mensch would lose all his Lehigh Valley communities (including Palmer and Forks townships) except Williams Township.

And the plan would strip Boscola’s district of a large chunk of Northampton County communities (including Nazareth borough, Lower Nazareth andUpper Nazareth townships and part of the Slate Belt) and place them in a newly created 45th district based in Monroe County.

Palmer would move to Boscola’s 18th, but Forks would go to the new 45th.

Back in Easton, the state House seat would not change. The city still would be represented by the 136th, held by .

Submit comments via the 2011 Legislative Reapportionment Commission's website at www.redistricting.state.pa.us.

The website also allows users to access detailed maps of the redistricting proposal and watch videos of thevarious meetings and hearings the commission has held.

State officials plan to have the new map in place for the 2012 election.
