Traffic Alert: Expect Delays Friday Night on Route 22 Bridge

Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission says to expect delays on Route 22 Friday night and Saturday morning.

Drivers heading east into New Jersey on Route 22 tomorrow night and Saturday morning could see some delays.

The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission is warning eastbound motorists that it will need to stop traffic intermittently between 9 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Saturday to install concrete barriers, remove pavement markings and apply new lane striping.

The commission suggests drivers allow for extra time, or use Interstate 78.

The repairs are part of the DRJTBC's $30 million project to rehabilitate the bridge between Easton and Phillipsburg, as well as some of the surrounding exits and overpasses.

In mid-July, it diverted all traffic into two single lanes, closing the eastbound part of the highway from just before Fourth Street in Easton to the toll bridge in Phillipsburg. That pattern is expected to be in place until late December.

The overall project is expected to take until early 2015, and will involve Route 22 being reduced to one lane during part of that time, including much of this year and another nine months in 2014.
