Schools Closed, Snow Emergency in Easton Until Friday Evening

Residents along snow emergency routes can keep their cars in the city garage for free.

With forecasters predicting up to 10 inches of snow for the Lehigh Valley Thursday into Friday, the city of Easton has declared a snow emergency.

The emergency goes into effect Thursday at 5 p.m. and will remain in place until Friday at 5 p.m.

That means two things:

1. If you live on one of the city's snow emergency routes -- Easton has them in all four neighborhoods -- you need to move your car.

2. Once you move it, you can keep your car in the city's parking garage, for free, until 6 p.m. Friday.

You can find a copy of the emergency routes on the city website.

The borough of West Easton declared its own snow emergency, from 5 p.m. Thursday until Friday at 3 p.m. And in Wilson, a snow emergency will go into effect at 6 p.m. Thursday until 3 p.m. Friday.

The Easton Area School district cancelled classes Friday.

Snow was expected to continue into Friday morning, with the wind chill of -7 degrees, according to the National Weather Service forecast. Friday night will be even colder, with temperatures around -5.
