Northampton County Approves TIF for Chrin Interchange

Financing deal would go toward $33 million construction project in Palmer Township.

Northampton County Council has approved a tax-increment financing (TIF) district for the Chrin interchange on Route 33 in Palmer Township.

Council voted 6-1 -- with one member absent and another abstaining -- to approve the deal, the Express Times reports. The county's approval follows similar votes

Under a TIF, the county, township and school district agree to forgo a large chunk of tax revenue from the land within the TIF for 20 years. Developer Charles Chrin plans to build the interchange along with office/industrial/retail space.

The Express said Councilman Jon Cusick cast the only "no" vote against the TIF, with Councilwoman Ann McHale abstaining due to a conflict of interest and Councilman Thomas Dietrich absent.

Cusick apparently clashed with Councilman Ron Angle over a deal that gives the county .
