Newcomers Win School Board Nods

Voters reject two incumbents, one former board member in Region 1 race.

Voters in the Easton Area School District have chosen three new faces for the school board's Region 1.

all won the Republican and Democratic nominations Tuesday, defeating incumbents Millie Mandarino and Jodi Hess and former school board president Richard Siegfried.

Rider is the former principal of Easton Area High School, while Arnts is a retired Easton high school teacher. Fehnel served for many years on the Wilson Area School Board before moving to Palmer Township.

The results for the Democratic ballot:

  • Rider - 744
  • Arnts - 705
  • Fehnel - 529
  • Hess - 515
  • Siegfried - 360
  • Mandarino -342

Meanwhile, voters in Region III may have to choose between incumbent Kerri Leonard Ellison and newcomer Frank Castrovinci. Both candidates had cross-filed, and unofficial results show Castrovinci winning the Republican nomination by a very tight margin, 512-504. 

Leonard-Ellison's nomination on the Democratic ticket was by a much wider margin, 678 to 541.
