Mike Fleck Won't Seek Re-Election

This year will be Mike Fleck's last year on Easton City Council.

Fleck announced Friday he won't seek re-election when his term ends in December, saying he wants to spend more time with his family, and building his consulting business.

 
“I have a five-year-old son, and don’t want to miss any of his baseball or basketball games,” Fleck said in a news release.

The news came out Friday morning through an interview he gave to Lehigh Valley Ramblings' Bernie O'Hare.

In an interview with the Easton Patch later in the day, Fleck said he thinks his work as a consultant could help bring development into the city.

"We have clients who I think would be a great fit for Easton, he said, but added that his position on council would make them working in the city impossible. 

"I also don't want to shortchange the city," he added, by not being able to devote as much time to his council seat.

Fleck Consulting, Inc. has grown to employ 11 people handling 29 clients in three states, the news release says.

Fleck -- who lives in and represents Easton's West Ward -- has served two non-consecutive terms on council. The first was from 2002 to 2006. He made two unsuccesful bids to run for mayor, in 2003 and 2007.

In his news release, Fleck named the passage of the city's same sex partnership benefits ordinance and the creation of the Easton amusement tax among his biggest accomplishments.
