Meet District Judge Candidate Tony Bassil

Easton controller wants to serve as the city's new district judge.

Bachelor Degree in Business & Finance from the American University

Tell us about your professional/business background:

26 years Corporate Controller for TransNet Corporation, Somerville, NJ

Easton City Controller since 2006, currently serving my 2nd term

Easton commissioner and treasurer for the Home Rule Study Charter

Easton Pension Board and Finance committee member.

Co-owner of The Carmelcorn Shop in downtown Easton since 1996.

Why are you running?

My goal is to further my service to my community by serving as Magisterial District Judge. I will bring the same dedication and work ethic that I have brought as Easton City Controller and I will continue to make Easton a clean and safe place to live.

What qualifies you to serve as the district judge?

I have the experience to lead and the dedication to serve. I have the proven leadership, the business background and common sense. I will be a fair and honest representative to our judicial system and continue the integrity that has defined this position.

What do you see as the job’s primary role and responsibilities?

  • Non-Jury criminal and civil cases

  • Traffic cases

  • Whether serious criminal cases go to the court of Common Pleas

  • Preliminary arraignments and preliminary hearings

  • Setting and accepting bail, except in murder or voluntary manslaughter cases

  • How much are you spending to run? How is your campaign being funded?

    So far I did spend around $2,400. The majority was funded by wife Sia and the rest from friends.
