Jim Edinger is Easton's New City Councilman

Zoning hearing board chairman replaces departing councilman Michael Fleck.

Easton's new temporary city councilman is a man who wants to be Easton's next full-time city councilman.

Council voted Wednesday night to add Jim Edinger, the chairman of the city's zoning board, to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Michael Fleck, who stepped down earlier this month. Fleck departed due to a move to Allentown, where he runs a political consulting firm.

Initially, Fleck had planned to serve the rest of his term, allowing the winner of this November's council election to take over the seat in January 2014.

Edinger had won the Democratic nomination for the seat in May, and will face Republican Kim Yedlosky in the fall.

According to the Express-Times, Yedlosky told council Tuesday night she also would have applied for the temporary seat, but thought it was only open to Democrats.

Stephen White, a Democrat and owner of Delaware River Books, had also interviewed for the seat.
