Easton Says No to Beer at Jack's Market

History of violations, resident complaints derail plans to sell beer at Jack's Market.

A long history of complaints against the owner of has derailed the Northampton Street store's plans to sell beer, according to published reports.

Easton City Council on Wednesday night voted to deny a beer distrubutor's license for the store. 

According to the Morning Call, city planning director Becky Bradley told council market owner Jagdish Desai has a thick file of complaints against it, ranging from having illegal apartments to improper use of city trash cans to selling loose cigarettes.

Desai's attorney told council some issues had been addressed, and others could be easily remedied.

But council members also recalled resident complaints about the property, and a history of double-parking in front of the building.

The license was also opposed by the Easton Business Association, and more than 20 residents who atended Wednesday's meeting, the Express-Times reports.
