Easton Salsa Can Move, Zoners Say

Easton's Zoning Hearing Board has approved a plan by Easton Salsa to move to the West Ward.

Easton's Zoning Hearing Board voted Monday night to allow to set up shop in a new location.

Arthur Skrzenski, who owns the salsa company, plans to move to 1458 Northampton Street.

"Once a week turns out to be pretty much the height of our production," Skrzenski told the board.

He said the company was extremely low impact, with most of the waste the operation produces going to composting at a local farm. Skrzenski said he'll also consult with to see if they want to compost using his materials.

Skrzenski had been working out of the Bank Street Annex, but said renovations there -- plus its events schedule -- have made it harder to operate.

The salsa company got its blessing from the Easton Planning Commission earlier this month, as did another of Monday's applicants, Schy-Rhys Redevelopment. The zoners approved Schy-Rhys' plan to into apartments and commercial space.

Also Monday, the zoners approved a request from the on South Second Street to turn an old parsonage into a community services center.

The church, between Ferry and Pine streets, is in Easton's flood plain. Church members say they'll evacuate the building in the event of the flood, but noted that the building hasn't flooded in recent years.

The church wants to use the building to offer counseling services and life skill classes.
