EASD Loses Another Right-to-Know Fight

Court rules Express-Times can read 3,500 school district e-mails.

For the second time this year, the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court has sided against the Easton Area School District and ruled a newspaper has the right to read district e-mails.

The court said Monday the Express-Times can access roughly 3,500 e-mails sent or received by school officials in October 2010. The Express says the district initially denied its request, saying it wasn't specific enough and that the e-mails were not public record.

The ruling comes three months after The Morning Call.

The school district has said it would appeal that case, and Express-Times attorney Doug Smillie told the paper he expects the district will do the same with this decision.
