County Makes Deal With Chrin on Interchange

Company will give percentage of land sales to preserve farmland space.

Northampton County Council will hold a public hearing Oct. 20 to decide whether to set up a for the in Palmer Township.

But although the county hasn't decided to sign off on the TIF, Chrin has given officials an incentive: for every lot it sells within the district, it will give the county 1.5 percent of the sale price, up to $2 million. The county, in turn, would use that money to preserve farmland.

County Councilman Ron Angle said he and County Executive John Stoffa had met with Chrin Thursday to broker the deal. The Easton Area School Board and Palmer Township supervisors have already approved the TIF for the $33 million interchange.

Under a TIF, taxing bodies agree to forgo tax revenue in the short term to get increased revenue down the road.
