Council to Tackle School Safety This Week

Easton City Council public safety committee will discuss safer schools at Tuesday meeting.

How can Easton keep its schools safer?

That's a question City Council's public safety committee wants to try to answer Tuesday night at 6 at City Hall.

Councilman Jeff Warren said the committee has invited representatives from Easton's Boys & Girls Club, Community Center and Weed & Seed program, as well as members of the Easton Area School District administration.

"The committee would like to hear from these important community organizations how best we can continue to reach our children so they do not become victims of violent crimes," Warren said in an e-mail. "Further, we would also like to hear from the EASD on their plans for enhanced security measures at all of our schools."

The meeting comes at the same time that Easton school officials are hosting the chiefs of police from the city and Palmer and Forks townships to review school safety in the wake of the Sandy Hook shootings.
