City Could Settle Police Captain's Lawsuit

Easton City Council set to vote for settlement in 2011 suit by former cop John Mazzeo.

Easton City Council is set to vote Wednesday to settle a 2-year-old lawsuit by a former police captain.

John Mazzeo sued the city and Mayor Sal Panto in 2011.

The Express-Times reported Mazzeo was seeking reimbursement for legal fees he accrued when he was named in a wrongful death lawsuit connected to the death of Officer Jesse Sollman, who was accidentally shot and killed by fellow officer Matthew Renniger in 2005.

According to a city resolution, Easton, Mazzeo and the city's insurance company Scottsdale have reached a settlement agreement.

Under the terms of the agreement, Scottsdale will pay Mazzeo $49,260, while the city will pay $29,595.
