8 Democrats, 7 Republicans, Seek County Council Seats

Crowded field of candidates seeking five open council seats.

There are five open seats on Northampton County Council this year, and 15 candidates in the race.

Eight Democrats and seven Republicans are vying for the seats.

On the Republican side:

  • Mat Benol, a former Tea Party Chairman from Palmer Township.
  • Peg Ferraro of Bushkill Township, the only incumbent in the race.
  • Glenn Geisinger, a businessman from Plainfield Township.
  • Frank Hesch, a Northampton resident and past president of the Whitehall Chamber of Commerce.
  • Tricia Mezzacappa, of West Easton, where she's also a candidate for borough council.
  • Hayden Phillips, first time candidate and Hewitt Packard project manager from Lower Nazareth.
  • Seth Vaughn, a Bethlehem phyisican's assistant who ran for county council in 2012.

The Democrat slate is made up of:

  • Christen Borso, a Bethlehem business owner and member of the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission.
  • Ronald Heckman, a former councilman and director of human services from Bethlehem.
  • Deborah Hunter, a Nazareth Area School Board member.
  • Kerry Myers, a former Easton Area School Board member from the city.
  • Tom O'Donnell, a former Lower Nazareth supervisor.
  • Jason Toedter, a first time candidate Bethlehem and project manager for RT Consulting and Engineering
  • Gerald Seyfried, a former county executive and councilman from Lower Nazareth.
  • William Wallace, a teacher and Wilson Area School Board member from Williams Township.
