Wilson Police: Man Impersonated Officer

Police in Wilson are looking for a man who apparently tried to pull a woman over Thursday.

Police in Wilson are looking for a man they believe is impersonating a police officer.

According to police, the investigation began Thursday evening when the man appararently tried to pull over a 59-year-old woman in Palmer Township.

The woman told police she was driving east on Newburg Road near Country Club Road around 8:30 a.m. when she saw a pick-up truck in her lane, coming at her.

The woman swerved onto the shoulder to avoid the truck. Soon after, she realized the truck was following her. Then the truck driver turned on a blue light, and stayed with the woman through a residential section of Palmer.

Police noted that the man would turn off the blue light -- which are not used by unmarked police cars in Pennsylvania -- when other people were around, and then switch it back on when they were alone. He followed her into Wilson, and was last seen around 19th and Ferry streets.

"At this point in time, we believe that this actor was attempting to stop the female and that he was impersonating a Police Officer," police said in a news release.

The man was driving a shiny, newer red pick-up with a silver grille, possibly a four-wheel drive. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Chris Meehan at 610-258-8542.

Police also offered tips for anyone who gets into this sort of situation:

  • Remember that unmarked police vehicles in Pennsylvania don't use a blue light.
  • If you're unsure about who's trying to pull you over, call 911.
  • Travel to a populated, well-lit area and keep your doors locked.
  • Obey all traffic laws, and be sure to call 911.
