Wilson Clerk Stole $156,000, Prosecutor Says

Lisa Guth pleads guilty to stealing from Wilson borough sewer fund.

Former Wilson borough clerk Lisa Guth has admitted to stealing from the borough's sewer fund, but a prosecutor says her theft was much larger than what was originally reported.

That's according to the Morning Call, which says Guth pleaded guilty Thursday to felony theft. She was first charged in July with taking $2,600 from the borough. Now, Assistant District Attorney Jim Augustine says an audit reveals the number was more than $156,000.

Police say Guth, 49, of Williams Township admitted during an interview to taking money that residents had paid to the borough.

Court records say Guth deposited the money, which came in the form of cash payments, in her own accounts, and used it for everyday purchases.  Police had begun investigating when a resident noticed a discrepancy with a bill.
